They simply didn’t keep up with you.

When we move to a new flat, we often find that we can’t take much with us — not because anything broke, but because the pieces just don’t fit the new space, the new colours, the new reality. And so we buy again — essentially the same things we already had.

How does the perfect purchase turn into “starting over from scratch”?

The answer is simple, and a little disappointing. Most furniture today is designed for the moment of purchase — and no further. For space and life as they exist right now. But we change: we move, we switch jobs, we have children, we start working from home more. And then it turns out the furniture doesn’t fit. Not because it’s bad — but because it isn’t flexible.

This is the central problem with most furniture on the Ukrainian market. It’s designed for the moment of purchase, but not for a modern life that shifts and changes over time.

A different logic

We looked at it differently: what if a piece of furniture could have several lives? What if you designed furniture not for the space as it is now, but for every version of that space to come?

Susy Space is built on that logic. We design furniture that adapts alongside the person — not furniture that expects the person to adapt to it. Every decision we make isn’t an added feature — it’s an answer to one question: what will this piece look like in five or ten years?

Three principles that make this possible

Knock-down construction. Furniture that’s easier to move means the logistics of moving house stop being a reason to avoid buying something well-made. It also means a damaged part can be replaced without replacing the whole piece.

Replaceable cushions. The colour, the mood, the space has changed — there’s no need to buy a new armchair. New cushions are enough: the appearance is refreshed, and the frame stays exactly as it was.Materials that age well. Natural wood doesn’t wear out — it develops character. Ash, metal, quality hardware: everything is chosen with one question in mind — how will this look in fifteen years?

Why we chose mid-century modern
